Little things that delight.
Apr 16, 2024Energy is perhaps our most valuable resource.
Even moreso than time.
Because unlike time, it can be multiplied, amplified and influenced.
Eating well. Exercise. Balancing work with fun all helps maximise energy.
But what goes hard and fast inevitably needs to slow down. When we expend intense energy, we need space and time to renew it.
It’s not just about getting more sleep. It’s about creating a haven of joy with rest.
Little things that delight.
For me that’s reading. For unlimited stretches of time - not just a shoed in hour at the end of the day.
For listening to my favourite music on repeat
For enjoying timeless breakfasts and equally long lunches and dinners.
For immersing in nature, and enjoying that feeling of being part of something eternal and bigger. The serene quiet of early mornings. The tranquility of sunsets. The soft murmuring of the ocean.
Relaxed time with the people I love the most. Giggling. Chatting. Hanging. Being.
Energy is sustainable only if it’s renewed. I use to push through the subtle and then not so subtle signs that I needed to slow down to renew. When I didn’t - I ended up exhausted, often sick and unable to be productive. I became cranky and frustrated. Little things would annoy me. Doing more led to achieving less. My tank was empty and willpower alone was not able to fill it.
Now I listen to my body. I embrace and enjoy my time out. It’s important. It’s a gift. It’s the fuel I need for the next spurt of growth. And this renewal time not only replenishes my energy, it stimulates the creativity, ideas and motivation for new possibilities to bubble and unfold. It helps me shed what I no longer need, and lean more into what I now want.
Renewal replenishes the energy you need for that next stage of growth. Embrace it as part of becoming the next version of you.
