Meditation

personal growth Jun 04, 2024

It's been 10 days since I returned from my 7-day meditation retreat.

So the verdict?

It was AMAZING. I genuinely loved it. I am committed to meditation - because here are the top things I discovered:

1. Deep Rest is a real thing.

When I first arrived I heard 4 different people say "I'm here for deep rest."

I was instantly curious. Of course "rest" made sense...but deep rest? Was this the same, or different? If so - how?

As it turns out - deep rest is its own thing!

There is something special that happens when you meditate for about 3 hours a day, for 7 days. You become still. In your mind, in your body, in yourself. It's hard (as we are all so wired!) but with practice when you find deep stillness - you also discover deep rest - an unshackling of everything except for being.

Once you are there - you want to go back (and best of all - now I know how!)

2. Protect Your Peace:

This idea was shared by one of the teachers  Peter Cook. Meditation helps to sift through all the noise - from thoughts, emotions & the subsequent stories we tell ourselves - many of which are not helpful. Recognising these for what they are (just thoughts and emotions) help us to let them go, rather than becoming attached to what they mean.

It's like the weather - some days there is sun, other days rain, occasionally there is thunder. It's not right or wrong, it just is.

This really resonated with me, as there is light and dark in everyone's life, and we move between both all the time. It's easy to get caught up in the story, the people, the drama! But observing it, rather than being attached to it - means I can be calm, present and better in the moment. I have capacity to think and feel, but let it go and be at peace - whether it's rain, hail or shine!

When I rise above the noise, I am at peace, while being even more present to the people & world around me.

3. Connect with the Universe:

Each day as I meditated, I felt the noise reduce and my intuition increase. Less thoughts and busy emotions, more knowing and being.

I've always believed in the universe, and that it speaks through intuition. It is strongest when I am calm and open. As I continued to meditate through the week, I felt more synchronised with why I was there, and that this was important - to my next growth path and way forward.

Now I can commune regularly with the universe! I can't wait to see what that brings!

So that was my experience. Incredible, beautiful and profound. Along with yoga, amazing food, & deep connection with 25 other amazing people who feel like friends for life.

Ascension meditation is here to stay in my life.
