How does self-belief blossom and grow?

The greatest shift usually comes first from the belief of someone else.

When they see something in you, that is possibly still emerging. When they share firsthand what they see and how much they are impressed. 

As we all have a finely tuned BS meter, it doesn't come from someone just being nice or fawning. It's embedded in observation and insight which rings true - especially to the person who is still unaware or unsure.

It is one of the most powerful gifts you can give someone else. It is the gift of holding belief for them, without expectation, in case they choose to realise it for themself.

I had such a lovely experience of this the other day. The wonderful Sandra Hogg has been helping me find a partner for my podcast. 

She described me as "having a similar interviewing style to Andrew Denton whose skill was always to get the unexpected stories out of his guests."

I'm new at podcasting. I'm sure I am doing many things "not quite right". But I love the "Uncomfortable Growth®" conversations I've been having with my guests, and I feel so privileged that so many industry icons have shared their very personal stories with me. 

It has been Sandra's observations though that have made me think differently. Wait. Maybe I'm good at this? Perhaps this is something I can develop and evolve? Maybe I should supercharge this! Regardless of what happens in the future, I'm excited and really inspired. Andrew Denton is a true legend, and to be compared to him in any way - is just crazy and awe-inspiring!!!

The great Steven Covey articulates leadership as "communicating to another person their worth and potential so clearly they are inspired to see it in themselves." This is the gift I received, and I'm so grateful to Sandra Hogg for it.

Who around you is brilliant, but struggling to see it for themself? How can you be a witness to their greatness, and give them the gift of your belief? 

Who knows what could come true! (I'm becoming the next Andrew Denton!)
