Talent

Apr 18, 2023

Talent is hidden in plain sight everywhere.

I’ve learnt over many years that it’s often in people whose job is to make others look good (and they don't like the limelight)

This is particularly true of EAs.

People forget they see everything. They tend to be deeply insightful about relationship dynamics.  How people are feeling. What is the reason a person is behaving differently.  How to resolve issues between people.

They feel the heartbeat of those around them.

They are often brilliant influencers. They know how to make things happen by tailoring their style to the individual. By asking a question or making a suggestion at just the right moment. By knowing when to give space, or to push.

They are keen observers. They are highly empathetic.

These are all skills I teach to business leaders.

Business leaders are trained to focus first on work output which skews strongly to IQ skills. So they often need help in developing EQ skills when they become people leaders.

But EAs get work done through people from Day 1. They have honed these skills over years.

They can't rely on hierarchy so they rely on insight and influence to make things happen. They tend to be quiet achievers, who take pride in helping everyone else achieve.

In the past week I’ve been involved with 3 highly talented EAs who all fit this profile.

And I’ve let them know what I see. That their talents are recognised. And that they make a valuable contribution.

Is there a person who does a brilliant job around you that falls under the radar?

Let them know they are valued.

Because it’s true. And you can.

And everyone needs a little reminder that they are seen. Especially those who like to operate more in the background.

They matter too.
